DIOR: JEWELED REVERIES!

DIOR: JEWELLED REVERIES!

In this, the fifth, and final, installment of our summer saga on the rose, we turn our attention to the Dior jewlry.

In the garden of Dior creations, certain varieties of roses count a pedigree that’s millions of years old: namely due to the precious materials from which Victoire de Castellane has delicately sculpted them, materials that have taken their time, out of the limelight, in far off lands, to perfect both their textures and their extraordinary colors. These gem bouquets add an aspect of eternity to the botanist culture of the Dior couture. Victoire de Castellane’s limitless imagination gives each of these jewel flowers (rings, necklaces, ear ornaments) the allure of a 3D fairytale, marvelous to observe in all their couture detail. From the smooth and silky petals rendered in coral, rose quartz or onyx in the Pré Catellan collection (2000), to the twelve extraordinary compositions from the fine jewelry line Le Bal des Roses (2011), we find ourselves in a garden of precious gems, with the same delight as Christian Dior when he strolled through the rose garden at Granville

For an instant, one can almost smell their gentle scent, propelled by the salty airs of the sea breeze. In the heroic symphony of white gold, diamonds, emeralds, chrysoprase, green tourmalines, tsavorite garnets and Paraiba tourmalines that swirl into an harmonious whole on the spectacular Bal d’Autrefois ring is to be found an echo of the petal-skirted dresses and the prints of blooming roses sprinkled throughout the Dior couture collections. After all, exquisite jewel roses and gorgeous garden roses share the same origin – the stuff of dreams.
