Emilio Pucci then & now!

Emilio Pucci then & now!

Emilio Pucci naturally embodied the post war, jet set glamour which captivated a new group of modern, active women.

1. Emilio Pucci, a dashing Florentine aristocrat, began his fashion career unexpectedly on the slopes of Zermatt in 1947 when the photo of a revolutionary ski suit he’d designed for a female friend found its way to the pages of Harper’s Bazaar.

2. The Pucci family home, a Renaissance-era Palazzo in the heart of Florence, was the ideal location for the young couture fashion house, enthralling press and clients who came to see the collections there.

2. In 1950 Emilio Pucci opened a boutique in Capri and Pucci's fashions began to reflect their Mediterranean identity, with splashes of exuberantly coloured print and precious Italian fabrications.

3. Their feminine and free-flowing body-conscious shapes translated seamlessly into weightless silk jersey dresses, resort-style sportswear and glorious evening gowns -- must-haves for the jet-set crowd.

Emilio Pucci was one of the first designers to stretch the boundaries of fashion, lending his creative talent to a variety of lifestyle projects.

These include futuristic airline uniforms for Braniff International, the logo for the Apollo 15 space mission, porcelain vases for Rosenthal, the interiors of the Ford Lincoln Continental Mark IV and many more. It is a design tradition that continues to the present day, as evidenced by a Pucci-printed sail for Wally Yachts and furniture produced in collaboration with Cappellini.

In the 1990’s, Emilio Pucci’s daughter, Laudomia, took the reins of the family business and in April of 2000, formed an alliance between the Pucci family and LVMH, with the French luxury group acquiring 67% of the capital. She continues to champion her father’s vision in her role as Image Director and Deputy Chairman of the brand.
Backed by the LVMH Group, the company has soared once again on the international fashion stage, building a global store network of more than 50 monobrand stores, including the Virtual Boutique, the brand’s online store.

In October 2008 the Norwegian designer Peter Dundas was appointed Creative Director. The love affair with Italian craftsmanship, luxury, colour and design that began over six decades ago continues to resonate through his creations.

The company has expanded rapidly and now also has offices in North America, Japan and Hong Kong, while it continues to be run from its historical headquarters at Palazzo Pucci in Florence, Italy.
